A new drive-through restaurant and petrol station will be developed on Boroughbridge Road to replace the current Wills & Ellis garage by the A59 roundabout and the outer ring road.
Whilst the site of the new builds are close to a congestion-reduction Park&Ride stop at Poppleton Bar, concerns and complaints have still been raised by residents. They felt that they were not adequately informed of the changes, regardless that the increase in congestion will affect them.
One resident, Carol Patten affirmed that there was “…no notification of this major development on our doorstep. The Park&Ride and the roundabout are there to ease traffic. The development of the drive-through will restrict this road as traffic will have to use the roundabout, causing increased congestion.”
Other projects discussed at the meeting held last Thursday have been green-lit, including new housing on Beckfield Lane and a new gym in Clifton Moor. In total, the new housing will be eighteen houses and nine flats, situated on the site of the former waste tip. The new gym will be run by Pure Gym with an affordable monthly subscription scheme.
Councillor Tracey Simpson-Laing spoke in support of the new projects, adding that the first new council houses will be built in the new city for “many decades” and a sure sign of more developments to come.
