Back in December 2013, TMZ alleged that Lindsay Lohan would be suing Rockstar Games for using her identity in Grand Theft Auto V.
In an AP report released today on Yahoo! Finance, Lindsay Lohan has now officially filed a lawsuit againstTake-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games in a Manhattan court.
The star of Freaky Friday and Mean Girls claims that Rockstar have used her voice, her likeness and styles from her clothing line for the character of Lacey Jonas – an anorexic, fame-hungry actress and minor character in Grand Theft Auto V. In the game, the protagonist helps Lacey to avoid the paparazzi as she flees a film set.
The first celebrity to be featured in the Grand Theft Auto franchise was Phil Collins, portraying a con man voiced by the man himself in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Since then, a whole host of celebrities have either been rendered into digital form or voice a character, including Ricky Gervais, Samuel L Jackson, Mark Zuckerberg, Tupac Shakur, Gary Busey and Jenna Jameson.
While Rockstar maintain that any likenesses of their video game characters are purely coincidental, they do admit that the Lacey Jonas character is a composite of many real world actresses.
Unfortunately for Lohan, parody is considered fair use under US copyright law so she is highly unlikely to win this publicity stunt…I mean, case…
